Yesterday we spent the whole day in Howth, we took the Dart as it is only about 30mins away from the centre of Dublin. The Dublin bay prawn festival is a three day event and there are live food demonstrations as well as dozens of food stalls where you can buy prawn dishes cooked in all manner of ways from Barbecued to Thai curry.
The festival was very lively with people from all ages and locations coming together to taste these famous prawns! Once we had had our fill of prawns we took a walk around the headlands of Howth. Luckily we had beautiful weather and we were able to take in the amazing views. After completing our walk, which is about 10k if you follow the purple path up the steep climb and around the headlands, we returned to the harbour front and took our seats in to have a well deserved drink and wait for the evening fireworks to begin.
Top visitor tip: Book your restaurant ahead of time as everywere will be fully booked all night!
The Prawn Festival:
Howth Headland Walk:
We followed the purple route and did the walk counter clockwise. It was a stunning walk but make sure to leave plenty of time as it takes a few hours when you keep stopping to take pics. You need sensible shoes and there are a lot of steep inclines and the surface is uneven the whole route.
